Meet the

Gym Leaders

Dragon Gym Leader

Leader: Maria

Badge: SFX Badge

Signature Pokémon: Dragapult

Bio: With a camera focus as sharp as her skills and her formidable variety of dragons, the fearsome film-producer Maria also doubles as the dragon gym leader. Her special effects aren't merely background noise; She uses the unrefined offensive force of her pokemon to frame the environment to her liking. She's ruptured through the base of the highest mountains just to hollow out the perfect studio. Can you handle doing your own stunts against her crew of dragons or will she leave you in the green room? Make your decisions carefully, because she'll only give you one take.

Ghost Gym Leader

Leader: Colleen

Badge: Scraps Badge

Signature Pokemon: Mimikyu

Bio: Being an expert yarn crafter, she's used to breathing new life into anything she fixes up... literally! But don't give up the ghost until you meet her array of phantom friends; you only have to brave your way to her cottage shop peeking over the dark woods. Just pardon the poltergeist's bustling through the path! Stop by for tricks, treats, and a hot cup of tea as she shows what mischief even the grimmest of spirits can get up to after being patched up with love.

Electric Gym Leader

Leader: Beau

Badge: Electric City Badge

Signature Pokémon: Ampharos

Bio:

Ground Gym

Leader: Patrick

Badge: Runestone Badge

Signature Pokémon: Gastrodon

Bio: An avid researcher of myths and legends; DC Pokémon league's Ground type gym leader wants to use the lessons of the past to help guide the future. "Learning from past failure can lead to future victory." He'll never lose to the same strategy twice. His hardy Pokémon dig deep with earthen power and weather any sandstorm to prove the old fable; that slow and steady wins the race.

Fairy Gym

Leader: Becky

Badge: Unassuming Badge

Signature Pokémon: Tinkaton

Bio: By day she's a humble engineer, but by night she's the life of the party. From concerts and cornhole to soirees and live streams if there's fun to be had you better believe she's already there. But don't let her party girl persona and pixie Pokemon perplex you, as the Fairy type gym leader of the DC Pokemon League she'll prove when it comes to the fae appearances can be deceiving.

Want to be a gym leader?

If you are interested in being a gym leader, we have a few things we look for:

We are looking for someone who will show up to all the meetings! About 4 monthly meetings in a row is required before Gym Leader Consideration. If you need to break your streak, just message the event or Becky ahead of time in order to maintain good communication.

Win at least half the current badges of the league. Here we are not only looking for your ability to do well, but also how you react to losing. We want to maintain a fun and welcoming environment for all participants, so rage quitting / pouting when losing or overly gloating when winning are red flags. Everyone is still welcome to attend meetings, but we hold our gym leaders to a higher standard. We don't want you to be easy, but we also don't want you to make the experience less fun to newcomers.

We have lots of jobs that need doing for Pokemon League. We upkeep the website, look for new pokemon events in the DMV area to advertise, look for new bars to meet at, run the instagram, keep engagement on the Facebook Page, advertise on and off facebook, and volunteer at conventions. We also plan on running tournaments for the club once we are big enough and coming up with tournament ideas. Be prepared to work with the current gym leaders on some of these things outside of normal League Nights.

Sometimes we can't take new gym leaders because we already have too many prospects. We can only put so many people on trial at a time. We want to slowly roll out new people to the league and not rush to 8+ gyms. Aside from just the things above, we want people who will work well with our group, so if you fight us when we can't take new prospects right now, then we probably don't want to invite you to work closely with us. Please respect the process. None of us are paid and we are doing this for fun in our free time. Thank you for understanding.
